13/02/2025 pond sounds 2. -  summer albums 

a list of a few albums we've been listening to over the summer season, really just a small selection as in compiling this list we realise how many more we could mention. 

1. Hiroshi Sato & Wendy Matthews - Awakening (1982)

a classic album from Hiroshi Sato, it opens with the sounds of waves crashing on the beach.  we've be listening to this album over a few years since 'a flat shop', primarily in summer. We have also recently been singing track two to the newest newborn member of shop pond. 

Broadly fits into the Japanese 'city pop' genre, this album is from 1982. We also like many of Sato's other albums. Check out this interview about the production of the album at 'Come Along Radio' (opens in new tab)

2. The Zenmenn - Enter the Zennmen (2021)

A new discovery for shop pond, we think this album by The Zennmen shares some qualities with the above mentioned Hiroshi Sato and the 'city pop' genre. A mix of instrumental and vocal songs, it features some pleasing relaxing melodies as well as some sweet/melancholic songs. We have also enjoyed the Hidden Gem EP, and have discovered collaborator John Moods' solo albums.

3. Glamour Lakes - Beach Fatigue (2020)

This album has slowly evolving soundscapes, perfect for late nights in summer. Combined with the title , it feels like it could be a soundtrack for a Michael Mann film. 

Adelaide expat Glamour Lakes is an ambient/electronic artist. Recently Glamour Lakes displayed their 'collect video works 2013 - 2023' in the window of our neighbouring shop Filter Store. You can purchase the collected video works in USB format from Glamour Lakes' bandcamp.

 

4. Sign Libra - Hidden Beauty (2023)

Ultra lush, ethreal & still melodic, we have been enjoying Sign Libra's latest album, though honestly we will usually play from their whole catalog in the shop. Their music feels like it has a symbiotic relationship with nature. One of our favourite artists found over the last few years.

5. Caldera - Casual Transcendence (2023)

Lush house with a psychedelic, aquatic or rainforest vibe. We also have enjoyed their 'Süss choc' single with Yushh.
